Expeditions
Antarctica 2004
In December 2004 Matt was part of a crew of 5 that set sail from Sydney harbour in a 43 foot yacht bound for Commonwealth Bay Antarctica. The journey would take the crew across over 5000km of the most extreme ocean on the planet.
For over 7 weeks the crew would experience the raw power and beauty of the Southern Ocean and the wonder that is the Antarctic continent. This expedition was a life changing experience for Matt and inspired him for further adventures.
North Pole 2005/2006
In 2005 Matt attempted to reach the geographical North Pole.
Dragging a sled weighing in excess of 90kg Matt and the team pushed across this frozen wilderness. Over coming pressure ridges, open expanses of water, whiteouts and temperatures below -40 Celsius the team arrived at the North Pole on the 19th of April.
One year later Matt again stood at the North Pole. Along with Eric Philips Matt was a guide on the Australian Polar Extreme Expedition. This expedition consisted of 8 Australians and included the First Australian women to reach the North Pole. The team skied the last degree to the North Pole
Antarctica 2007
In January 2007 Matt was part of an expedition that sailed a 60 foot yacht back to Antarctica.
Departing from Ushuaia at the Southern tip of South America the team of 8 rounded Cape Horn and crossed the infamous Drake Passage.
For 3 weeks Matt and the crew were engrossed in what is the beauty of the Antarctic Peninsular.
North Pole 2008
In April 2008 Matt was a member of the PriceWaterhouseCoopers North Pole Expedition that attempted to ski the last degree to the geographical North Pole.
Consisting of a senior member of the PWC Climate Change services team, the expedition was not only about reaching the Pole but was to study the effect of climate change in the high Arctic.
